Cambodia is a conservative country. That doesn’t mean there aren’t wild Khmer women. Some chicks love foreign guys. Most of them live in Phnom Penh. Pontoon Nightclub
Pontoon is one of the biggest and most famous nightclubs in Phnom Penh. Pretty much everyone knows it. All you have to do is give them a dollar to take you there.
Pontoon is on Street 172. It’s a part of the Golden Sorya Mall. Depending on where you stay, you might even be able to walk to Pontoon. We don’t really recommend that since tuk tuks are so cheap, but it is an option.
Once you get to Pontoon all you have to do is walk inside. They have security but they usually don’t bother foreign guys. Once you go through the door you just keep walking. Go right through the lounge then through the door into the main club.
The club is pretty big. Most of it is dance floor. There’s a bar in the middle and tables in the back. Pretty much anyone can sit down at the tables. The crowd is mixed. There are a lot of Cambodian girls between the ages of twenty and thirty. Cambodian guys are rare. Some old guys and backpackers always show up. So do a lot of regular travelers.
Pontoon opens at 8:00 in the evening. It really gets going at around 10:00 or 11:00 at night. By 2:00 in the morning everything starts to wind down. It is worth staying in the club until late though. A lot of women from the girly bars go to Pontoon after work.
Picking up girls at Pontoon
Picking up chicks at Pontoon is pretty easy. At least Pontoon is the easiest place to pick up women in Phnom Penh. You might have some success with day game in the newer shopping malls or even in the streets. Especially if you are young and decent looking. Or if you can speak some Khmer.
If you don’t speak the language and just want to meet some women Pontoon is your best bet. For a long time it was considered the only game in town. It’s still one of the main clubs in the city. It is the main club for foreigners and locals to interact too.
Pontoon is like any other club when it comes to picking up chicks. If you see some ladies you like, all you have to do is go up and talk to them. Cambodian women are friendly. You probably won’t get a cold rejection even if a girl doesn’t like you. So you never feel too bad. It’s not like the West where all too many women are happy to shit all over a guy.
Hooking up with Cambodian women
In general Cambodian women aren’t into fast hookups. Most Khmer women don’t even have sex before they get married. But Pontoon isn’t general. It’s a nightclub. “Good girls” don’t go to Pontoon. Not all the women at Pontoon are looking for sex with foreigners to be sure. But some of them definitely are.
You can find a girlfriend at Pontoon, but it’s not the best place for that. Cambodian women make great girlfriends and even wives. If you’re looking for a serious relationship, we recommend that you sign up for Asian Dating. You can meet a good girl there and settle down.
If you are going to find one of the wild women in Phnom Penh, there’s a good chance it will be at Pontoon. Women in their early twenties who look west and wear sexy clothes are most likely to be into you. Especially if they’re at Pontoon.
The biggest obstacle is that most women live with their families until they get married. So even if they want to go home with you they have a problem. But now many women live with sisters while they study or even live alone. So there are possibilities. The best thing is that there are other options even if you fail to hookup.
Prostitutes at Pontoon
Pontoon attracts foreign guys. That in turn attracts prostitutes. Some of them are pretty hardcore. Most of them are just freelancers who hook when they need to make money. The line is blurry. Some guys even get confused. They wake up in the morning and find their “hookup” dressed and asking for money. Don’t be one of those guys.
The prostitutes at Pontoon are pretty easy to spot. They are usually keyed on foreign guys. Sometimes they even get aggressive and approach you. They really don’t leave that much doubt as to their intentions if you know what to look for.
Wild women into foreigners have their own look and style. They probably speak English well. They might be university students or women with decent office jobs. Cambodian prostitutes are more likely to wear lots of gold and wear bright patterned clothes. They don’t speak as much English and they’re more aware of their surroundings as they are always looking for Johns.
Since the hookers at Pontoon are freelancers, they set their own prices. They usually expect between forty and eighty dollars for a night of sex. Some will agree to less or take whatever a guy gives them. A few want a hundred dollars or more. If you can’t hook up with a civilian or see anyone you’re into, they are always an option.
Stay safe
Make sure to follow basic safety precautions when you go to Pontoon. Most people seem to do fine, but there are reports of guys having drinks spiked at the club. Read our safety tips on drink spiking to avoid that kind of problem.
Don’t forget to buy condoms in Phnom Penh before you go to the club too. You don’t want to be searching around for a store that sells condoms late at night. For the most part, Phnom Penh shuts down after dark. Even the wildest Cambodian woman doesn’t carry her own condoms or take the pill. Better be prepared.
