How to get from Bangkok to Pattaya
Pattaya has an airport, but it doesn’t get much use. U-Tapao International Airport is about an hour drive from central Pattaya. It doesn’t have many connections either. Unless you’re flying from Malaysia or China, you probably can’t get a direct flight to U-Tapao.
Both Bangkok airports have man international connections. Since they’re only about 90 minutes from Pattaya, most people just fly into Bangkok. It’s easier and it doesn’t take that much longer. Even people already in Thailand usually start out in Bangkok. So we’re going to tell you how to get from Bangkok to Pattaya.
Take a taxi to Pattaya
If you’re at the airport all you have to do is walk to the taxi queue. The driver you get will take you to Pattaya. They usually want a set fare. Plan on spending 1500 Baht all together. They’ll take you right to your hotel door in comfort.
If you want to save money, you can go to the departures area and talk to a taxi who just dropped someone off. They will often take you to Pattaya for less than 1000 Baht if you negotiate. This doesn’t seem to be any worse, so it’s worth a try if money is an issue.
Even if you aren’t in the airport, we still suggest you take a taxi to Pattaya. You can just stop a taxi on the road and ask them to take you. You would be surprised how many of them are up for the trip. If they agree to run the meter it will cost over 1000 Baht. Most will want to negotiate a price though. Anything under 1500 Baht is reasonable.
If you don’t want to be so nonchalant, you can book a taxi to Pattaya before you go. There are many taxi services that will do the trip, but Nam’s Taxi Service comes highly recommended. The driver is a lady and she speaks English. She charges 1500 Baht from Bangkok to Pattaya.
There is a bus from Bangkok to Pattaya. It’s cheap at 130 Baht, but we don’t recommend it. First you have to get to the bus station. Then you have to wait for the bus. Next, the bus will drop you off at the edge of Pattaya. So you still have to get from there to your room. The taxis in Pattaya are notorious so you might pay more for the short trip from the bus drop to your room than you did for the entire bus ride.
Get picked up by your Thai girlfriend
